Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made a major announcement on Monday for the transgender community. According to the announcement, the Delhi government is ready to offer free bus travel services for transgenders in the capital city. Just like the women of Delhi, now transgender individuals can also avail of free travel on some buses plying in the city.

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, the Delhi Chief Minister shared the grand news with everyone.

On February 5, the Delhi CM announced that his government will be providing bus tickets and travel for free for the above-mentioned community on Delhi Transport Corporation and cluster buses. He stated how the transgender community is often neglected in our social environment. Arvind Kejriwal mentioned in his social media post how transgender persons are also human beings and have equal rights. The scheme to offer free bus travel for people from the third gender will soon be passed by the cabinet. It will also be implemented promptly. He is hopeful about this decision and shared how this will help the transgender community greatly.
Kailash Gehlot shared that the scheme of travelling on buses for free will only be allowed with a government-issued certificate. The district magistrate offices will issue these. The certificates will help in identifying transgender persons. According to a report by The Indian Express, the Transport Minister of Delhi added how transgender community can travel for free on the basis of information from the Social Welfare Department.
Expectations regarding the free travel scheme on buses state how thousands of individuals of the transgender community in the national capital will receive help and benefits.

There Is A Similar Initiative For Women As Well
It was back in October 2019 when the government began free travel services on some buses for women. A senior official of the Delhi transport department stated how women passengers are travelling for free on Delhi Transport Corporation and cluster buses operated by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Limited, according to a report by Hindustan Times. Now, the Delhi government is ready to provide the scheme for the transgender community as well.
