Indian Railways Launches Its First Transgender Tea Stall At Guwahati Railway Station

In a landmark move, Guwahati Railway station in Assam is now home to India’s first transgender tea stall. The tea stall is fully managed by the transgender community. And it’s a wonderful way to empower them and destigmatise pre-conceived notions and prejudices about the community. Here’s all you need to know about the most-sought after chai stall in Guwahati Railway station.

Transgender Tea Stall Inaugurated At Guwahati Railway Station

According to a report by NDTV, Northeast Frontier Railway took up the initiative to set up the ‘Trans tea stall’ at Guwahati Railway station. This is the first such tea stall opened by any railway station in India. And this was possible thanks to the support and active collaboration of the All Assam Transgender Association and top railway officials.

The Trans Tea stall launch took place in the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Office compound in the city of Guwahati. In an interview with NDTV, CPRO of NF Railway, Sabyasachi De threw more light on the transgender tea stall. He stated that the General manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, Anshul Gupta, inaugurated the Trans tea stall.

Here’s What To Look Forward To!

This tea stall is located on Platform number 1 at Guwahati Railway station. At the inauguration event, the Associate Vice Chairman of the Transgender Welfare Board of Assam, Swati Bidhan Baruah was also present. This is the first transgender tea stall opened by Indian Railways. The entire stall located on Guwahati Railway Station Platform 1 will be run and managed only by transgenders. This stall is testimony to the government’s ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’. And truly sets the pillar for the empowerment of the community.

Northeast Frontier Railway took to their Twitter account @RailNf to share pictures of the newly inaugurated transgender tea stall. The pictures look fab! You can see a pink-coloured tea stall with ‘Trans Tea Stall’ written in white font. Travellers can grab refreshments like Coca-Cola, Nescafe cold coffee, Maggi cup noodles, Choco Pie, biscuit packets and even KitKat chocolates. So, apart from a hot cup of chai, you can also grab snacks and summer coolers on the go.
