Malad has a new cafe on the block, and this one is bringing together two things we love: coffee and mithai-inspired indulgence. Meet Cocoa & Katli, the new venture by Harsh Kedia, also known as A Diabetic Chef, and entrepreneur Arihant Jain, which opened last week in Malad, Mumbai. The idea? To make eating out a little more inclusive, without making anyone feel like they have to compromise on taste. And if you know Harsh Kedia’s journey, you’ll know this isn’t just another cafe launch.

Meet Cocoa & Katli: Harsh Kedia’s New Chapter In Mumbai

Harsh Kedia’s relationship with food took a turn when he was diagnosed with diabetes as a teenager. More than 16 years later, he has built his work around a simple belief: being mindful about what you eat shouldn’t mean giving up on the things you love. With Cocoa & Katli, he’s taking it beyond desserts and into the everyday cafe experience.

Think about it: how often have you gone out with friends or family and found yourself scanning the menu for something that fits your preferences? Cocoa & Katli wants to make that experience easier, with better-for-you choices built into the menu rather than tucked away in a separate ‘healthy’ section.

What’s On The Menu?

Cocoa & Katli brings contemporary cafe culture together with a nod to India’s love for traditional sweets. The 1,050-square-foot space serves speciality coffee, artisanal desserts and an all-day menu, with options for everything from a quick bite between meetings to a long, leisurely catch-up.

There’s also a dedicated children’s menu, making it a potential pick for family outings. The idea is to create a space where coffee lovers, dessert enthusiasts, families and those who are more conscious about ingredients can all find something they enjoy.

The team has taken a product-specific approach to developing recipes, focusing on ingredients and formulations that retain the flavours and textures people expect from their favourite treats. In other words, the aim is to make thoughtful eating feel less like a compromise and more like a natural part of the experience.

A Little Cocoa, A Little Katli!

The name itself sums up the concept rather neatly. ‘Cocoa’ nods to modern cafe culture, while ‘Katli’ celebrates India’s much-loved mithai traditions. The result is a cafe that looks to bring both worlds to the same table.

Whether you’re stopping by for coffee, meeting a friend over dessert or heading out with the family, the focus here is on making room for different preferences without taking the fun out of eating.

And honestly, a cafe that wants you to think a little more about what you eat without thinking any less about how good it tastes? Malad, you might want to add this one to your list.
