But, travelling during the pandemic can be a super-risky affair, which is why transport authorities are going for contactless services. So, Delhi Metro has launched a new smart card for its passengers, which enables contactless travel during the pandemic. Read on to know more.
How To Use The New Delhi Metro Smart Card?
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on August 19 has launched new smart cards with auto top-up facility. To avail this feature, Metro commuters need to download the AutoPe app. Next, they need to link their credit cards/bank accounts/UPI accounts on the app. Now, when the value of the smart card drops below ₹100, it will get automatically recharged with ₹200 at Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) entry gates. This amount will then be automatically deducted from the commuter’s linked account. Also, a nominal convenience fee will be charged for every transaction carried.

New Smart Card To Eliminate Queues
The DMRC has tied up with AutoPe to enable cashless, contactless travel during the pandemic. Currently, even online recharges require validation at add value machines, for which passengers have to wait in long queues. Now, the new smart card will eliminate this. An important thing to note is that passengers can also upgrade to this auto top up facility using their old Delhi Metro travel cards. Apart from contactless transactions, Autope holds other benefits like home delivery of cards, and customisation facility.

Delhi Airport Goes For Contactless Travel Too
Apart from Delhi Metro, the Delhi Airport too has a contactless travel facility. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has come up with an online portal to make things easier for international passengers arriving in India. This platform enables passengers to file self-declaration forms as well as applications requesting exemption from mandatory institutional quarantine.
