Delhi Metro resumed operations from September 7 after a gap of almost five months. To ensure the safety of the passengers amid COVID-19, the metro rail authorities have taken several measures like checking temperatures at entry points, providing sanitisers, sanitising bags, accepting only token payments and loads more. Now, to ease travel further, during the morning and peak hours, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation( DMRC) has decided to provide real-time average waiting time through social media platforms. From November 12, DMRC will provide the updates if the waiting time at a busy station seems to exceed 20 minutes. Read on to know the details.
DMRC To Provide Average Waiting Time Of Ten Stations During Morning And Evening
According to a Business Standard report, the DMRC has said in a statement, “In a first, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will provide real-time average waiting time at selected busy stations during morning and evening peak hours, in case the waiting time goes beyond 20 minutes.” The implementation of the move will take place from November 12. DMRC will post updates on social media platforms from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM and 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The updates will be on the average waiting time at ten busy stations. The stations are Chandni Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Saket, Chawri Bazaar, Rajiv Chowk, Huda City Centre, Barakhamba Road, Lal Quila and JLN Stadium. Delhi Metro had also spread awareness on COVID-19 through Bollywood songs.

Operation Personnel To Assess The Waiting Time During Peak Hours
There will be operation personnel in the stations who will assess the waiting time during peak hours, and if it exceeds 20 minutes, will inform the same to the travellers through the social media pages. Modifications will also be made depending on the fluctuations in crowd and traffic. The DMRC has started this on an experimental basis and on the basis of the feedback from the commuters, will consider implementing it in more stations.

The metro authorities have also advised travellers to keep 15 to 20 minutes extra at hand as the mandatory COVID-19 protocols are in place.
