The Civil Aviation Ministry has decided to shut down 27 airports across northern, western, and central India for commercial operations temporarily. The airports will be shut till 5:29 AM on Saturday, May 10. Several Indian airlines and major airports like Delhi and Mumbai have also issued travel advisories for the passengers, urging them to travel to the operational airports early. 27 Airports Across India Shut Down Temporarily
Keeping in mind the escalating tensions at the border, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has directed all airlines and airports in India to amp up their security measures. They have also decided to shut down the following 27 airports across the country temporarily –

According to the Times of India, Indian carriers cancelled around 430 flights on Thursday. This is about 3% of the country’s total scheduled flights. Flight tracking website Flightradar24 revealed that skies over India’s western corridor, from Kashmir to Gujarat, were almost entirely empty of civilian airplanes on Thursday.

Airports & Airlines Issue Travel Advisories For Passengers
Indian airlines have also issued travel advisories for passenger safety and seamless travel. Airlines like Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air took to social media to urge passengers across India to reach airports at least three hours before departure. This will ensure smooth check-in and boarding as well. The airlines also mentioned that the check-in counters will be closed 75 minutes before departure, and advised passengers to plan their travel accordingly.

Major airports like Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru, and Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport have also issued similar travel advisories urging passengers to arrive at the airports early. The airports reassured passengers that they are working as per usual schedule and the heightened security measures is the only reason for the request.
