There are restaurants you walk into and immediately understand. Then there is Mr Button, which seems to prefer keeping you slightly confused. It is dark. Very dark. The kind of dark where you start wondering whether everyone around you is actually visible or whether we are all simply trusting the vibes. It is cold too, in a way that I still cannot fully explain. Add the slightly damp, dewy atmosphere, and suddenly you are sitting inside what feels like a very well-dressed underground hideout. And somehow, it works! And it works absolute magic. Mr Button has the full personality of a bar without trying too hard to look like one. The place just lets you sit there, drink something interesting and pretend you have a mysterious backstory. Which, honestly, is a pretty good way to spend an evening. We started with The Ritual!
The Ritual Was A Gentle Beginning
The Ritual felt like the drink you order when you are still figuring out what kind of night this is going to be. It has sparkling wine, mango cordial and orange bloom, and there is a nice little contrast between the sweetness and the spice.
It is light, floral and easy to drink, but it is not flat or forgettable. If you like lighter cocktails, I would start here. Would I call it the drink of the night? No. But it did exactly what a first drink should do. It got the evening moving without immediately sending it into overdrive.

Courtside Kiss Came Dressed For The Internet
Then there was Courtside Kiss!
Grey Goose vodka, strawberries, cream, lime and vanilla. Already sounds like something that would have a very active Pinterest board. And then it arrives with that cream foam sitting on top in this almost pie-shaped little formation, and you realise the drink has been given its own aesthetic department.
It is genuinely pretty.
The strawberries and vanilla give it that soft, almost dessert-like sweetness, while the lime cuts through it before it becomes too much.
Night At The Ritz Did Not Come To Play
Then came Night At The Ritz. This was my drink!
Tequila, peach, pomelo, grapefruit and lemon. On paper, it sounds like a fairly busy combination. In the glass, it somehow makes perfect sense.
It was fruity without tasting like juice and had that little spicy edge that kept the sweetness in check. The grapefruit and pomelo gave it some bite, while the peach softened everything.
I liked it a lot. Possibly too much! There may have been two…and there may have been three. Let’s leave the exact number between Night and me at The Ritz.
The easiest way I can describe how refreshing it was is this: imagine breathing in two kilos of freshly purified air with an absurdly good AQI. Now imagine that air has peach, grapefruit, lemon and tequila in it.
That was this drink. If I were going back specifically for one cocktail, this would be it.
The Food Menu Is Small, Which Is Fine
The food selection at Mr Button isn’t enormous, but I didn’t really mind. This is the sort of place where the drinks are clearly getting the attention, while the food arrives to make sure nobody has to survive an entire evening on cocktails and questionable decisions.
First came the truffle mushroom croquettes. These were probably the least exciting thing we ate.
With the drinks, though, they worked. And sometimes that is enough.
Then the truffle and Parmesan fries showed up, and those were considerably harder to ignore.
The Fries Were Generous With The Parmesan
There is something deeply comforting about a plate of fries that does not ration its cheese. These did not!
The truffle and Parmesan were properly generous, and the garlic aioli on the side made the whole thing even better.
The Crispy Chicken Bites Were Dangerous
I loved the crispy chicken bites. They had enough spice to keep things interesting and the kind of crunch that makes you immediately reach for another one. What surprised me most was that I did not really need the dip.
The chicken could hold its own. And that is always a good sign.
They were the sort of snack I could have happily eaten throughout the evening without ever announcing that I was hungry.

The Pizzette Was The Right Way To End Things
By the time the sun-dried tomato pizzette arrived, we were already quite full. So a small pizza was exactly the level of ambition we could handle.
The pizzette came with sun-dried tomatoes, burrata, mozzarella and San Marzano tomatoes. It had the juicy, slightly tangy tomato flavour you want from a good Neapolitan-style pizza, but the cheese was really doing the works here.
There was plenty of it. Gooey, melted, properly satisfying cheese without turning the whole thing into a giant slab of heaviness.
So, Was The Night Worth It?
I think what I liked most about Mr Button was that it did not feel like it was trying desperately to impress me.
The interiors are dark. The food menu is restrained. The cocktails, and there are enough little details, like the cream-topped Courtside Kiss or the very refreshing Night At The Ritz, keep the evening interesting.
You leave slightly chilly, slightly full, and probably happier than when you arrived, and with at least one cocktail you will be thinking about on the way home. For me, that cocktail was Night At The Ritz. The rest can fight for second place.
