If you are a sucker for flowers and nature beauty, we’ve got an exciting news for you! The Rashtrapati Bhawan’s Mughal Gardens has again opened its gate for you this year till March 15. However, do remember to book slots online. President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated ‘Udyanotsav’, the annual event at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on February, 2020 giving green signal to the local public to visit the beautiful Mughal Gardens.

What Is It?
The Mughal Gardens in the backyard of President’s House, Rashtrapati Bhawan is viewed as one of the best in the country having hundreds of exotic varieties of plants, including several rare flowering ones. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the Mughal Gardens open annually for the public for almost a month.
What’s Exciting?
In case you’re wondering what’s so special about this place, well, there’s a lot. The complex houses six gardens of varying specialties. Each of the gardens have something unique to offer.

Over 10,000 Tulip bulbs, 138 types of roses and 70 different kinds of about 5,000 seasonal flowers welcome the visitors to the garden. Known for its exotic and rare rose varieties, this year it boasts of “Grace de Monaco” rose, which was planted by Prince Albert II of Monaco last year.
Flower Carpets in magnificent designs will also be on display in the central lawns. The dominant colour scheme of this year’s ornamental flowers is white, yellow, red and orange.
Roses, Roses.. Everywhere!
There’s also a crazy variety of roses named after eminent people, including former President Pranab Mukherjee, Mother Teresa, former US President John F Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth and first Indian PM Jawaharlal Nehru.
Apart from it, there are roses with unconventional and interesting names as ‘Christian Dior’, ‘American Heritage’, ‘First Prize’, ‘Kiss of Fire’ and ‘Double Delight’.
The visitors can also see some of the very rare types of roses such as ‘Green Rose’, ‘Oklahoma’, ‘Bonne Nuit’, ‘Blue Moon’ and ‘Lady X’.
The 15-acre garden, in all features exotic flowers and plants, including tulips, hyacinth, bulbous, Asiatic lilies, daffodils, and many others.
Main Highlights
The main attraction of this year’s ‘Udyanotsav’ are ‘Bulbous’ flowerings. They are in vivid colours of red, white, orange and yellow. The garden is covered by a variety of bulbous flowers like ‘Narcissus’, ‘Dahlia’, ‘Sparaxis’, ‘Ranunculus’, ‘Hyacinth’ and ‘Asiatic Lily’.

The teacup-shaped Tulips are another attraction at the Mughal Gardens, especially ‘Jammu Pink’ Tulip, which stands low yet distinguished with its rich pink petals edged with white, giving it a shiny texture.
The Mughal garden has both Mughal and English styles, along with beautiful terraces, lawns, and flowerbeds. The Mughal Gardens saw 5.18 lakh visitors last year and has received 3-6 lakh visitors every year since 2003.
