The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or the CSMIA, which is also known as Mumbai Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country. Amid the festive rush, it has attained new heights. On November 11, it created a new record for the highest air traffic movements or ATMs. With a total of 1,032 ATMs, it broke its previous record of 2018. Here are all the details that you need to know about this particular update.
Mumbai Airport Records 1,032 Air Traffic Movements
The Mumbai Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country. It recently managed to achieve new heights in that it witnessed the highest number of ATMs in its history. Its previous record was created on December 9, 2018, with 1,004 ATMs. This year, it managed to beat that record and registered a total of 1,032 ATMs.
It also managed a whopping 161,419 passengers on this landmark day. Out of these, 53,680 were international passengers while the other 107,765 were domestic passengers. What is more, during the weekend between November 11 and November 13, the airport recorded a total of 516,562 passenger movements! Out of these, 162,021 passengers flew internationally whereas 354,541 passengers flew domestically.
It also managed a whopping 2,894 ATMs during the weekend. 757 of these flights flew internationally and 2,137 flew domestically. The top international destinations that most people flew to were Abu Dhabi, Dubai and London as well as Singapore. Whereas, the top domestic destinations that most people flew to were Bengaluru and Chennai as well as Delhi.
More People Travelling Due To The Festive Season
This milestone is indeed a testament to the hardworking airport personnel who work round the clock to ensure that passengers have a smooth travel experience. The high number of travellers is mainly due to the festive season. Many people travel to their homes to be with their families during the festive season.
This new milestone is clearly reflective of the capabilities of the staff and people in charge to handle a high volume of passengers. It also shows that the airport can, too, handle a high volume of air traffic without risking the safety of passengers or compromising the high standards that the airport has.
With Christmas and the New Year just around the corner, it would not be entirely unreasonable to think that the high air traffic will go down any time soon. However, given the proficiency of the folks over at the Mumbai Airport, it surely won’t be a problem.
