The time observed throughout India is the IST. Indians follow the time set at 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time which is now called Universal Coordinated Time. It is calculated based on the longitude, Indian Standard Meridian, crossing the middle of India at 82°30’E. This longitude passes through the states of Orissa, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Precisely, 82°30’E is at Mirzapur which is near Allahabad, now called Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. There is a dedicated spot in Mirzapur for this. There is a giant map of India, highlighting the exact location and the longitude. A big clock showing the correct time in India and a small information board about the same.
Mirzapur’s IST spot can easily be spotted as the dimension 82°30′, Mirzapur and the map are spotted at the dedicated location. You can plan with your friends to go and explore it, click some pictures and share this piece of information with more.
