Domestic Flights To Get Cheaper As Government Removes Air Fare Caps From Aug 31

The aviation industry brings in some good news. On Wednesday, The civil aviation ministry announced the removal of the fare caps it had imposed on domestic flights from August 31. After air travel resumed on May 25, 2020, after a two-month nationwide pandemic lockdown, the Government imposed lower and upper limits on domestic airfares based on flight durations. PTI stated that the limits were imposed to protect the financially weaker airlines and passengers from high fares. But looks like now the aviation ministry has finally decided to remove restrictions on ticket rates. And this is happening after an analysis of daily demand and prices of air turbine fuel. The Ministry Of Civil Aviation, Government Of India’s Decision On Domestic Flights

On August 10, 2022, the official Twitter handle of MoCA_Gol announced the removal of fare bands notified from time to time regarding the airfares. The tweet said, “After review of the current status of Scheduled Domestic Operations viz-a-viz passenger demand for air travel, it has been decided to remove the fare bands notified from time to time regarding the airfares with effect from 31.08.2022.” The Ministry Of Civil Aviation, Government Of India later also tweeted that the airlines/airport operators shall, however, ensure that the guidelines to contain the spread of #COVID19 are strictly adhered to and COVID-appropriate behavior is strictly enforced by them during the travel on domestic flights.

Decision Of Removal Taken After Careful Analysis Of Daily Demand And Prices Of Air Turbine Fuel

After the Ministry Of Civil Aviation, the Government Of India made the removal of airfare caps on domestic flights news public, Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took to Twitter to further reveal that the decision to remove restrictions on ticket rates was taken after an analysis. “The decision to remove airfare caps has been taken after careful analysis of daily demand and prices of air turbine fuel. Stabilization has set in & we are certain that the sector is poised for growth in domestic traffic in the near future,” tweeted Scindia. Well, now with the removal of the fare caps the aviation industry had imposed on domestic airlines from August 31, let’s hope the sector sees more growth.
