The minister shared beautiful glimpses of this wonderful unveiling event hosted on Sunday. He thanked Mayor Takeshi Saito, Member of Parliament Hideo Onishi, Parliamentary Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Masahiro Komura, members of the Indian community, and friends of India for joining at this special occasion in Edogawa.
Mayor Takeshi Saito informed Jaishankar that the park where the statue has been placed will be named after the father of our nation. Jaishankar stated it will be named ‘Gandhi Park’ soon. The location is very close to the Indian community residing in Tokyo. Edogawa Ward and Mayor Saito decided to build a partnership with India by unveiling the statue at the park, Jaishankar shared after unveiling Gandhiji’s bust at Freedom Plaza.
Mahatma Gandhi continues to be one of our biggest inspirations to this day. His message of peace and non-violence remains timeless even today. Principles that he shared decades back are more relevant at present times when the world is witnessing so much conflict, tension, and polarisation.
The minister also spoke about how “Gandhiji was the original prophet of sustainable growth.” Mahatma Gandhi was an advocate of living in harmony with nature and inclusiveness.
