Recently, Dubai International Airport revealed stellar record-breaking achievements of 2023. Yes, in a report by the Dubai Media Office, it was mentioned that the airport witnessed extraordinary growth in terms of guests, flights, and even baggage handling. Yes, the DXB welcomed 87 million guests in annual traffic in 2023. As a result, it surpassed not only Dubai Airport’s yearly forecast but also its pre-pandemic levels of traffic. Here’s all about the record-breaking achievements.

DXB Receives 87 Million Guests In 2023

Dubai International Airport recently concluded a year of achievements by welcoming 87 million passengers. The report mentioned that this exceptional performance reveals Dubai’s emergence as the world’s most popular tourism destination. Yes, it also plays a pivotal role in global commerce and trade, which is facilitated by unmatched connectivity, aviation capacity, and logistic infrastructure. As it happens, the emirate has also set new benchmarks and passenger experience with excellent levels and innovative technologies, which keep redefining airport services.

Dubai Airport is led by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group. He introduced strategic initiatives and made several vital investments in a lot of areas to keep the way at the forefront of global aviation growth.

2023 Saw An Increase Of 31.7%

It’s worth mentioning that DXB also witnessed a surge in guest numbers! Yes, it reached a total of 86,994,364, which is impressive! There is also a year-on-year increase of 31.7% which is just under a percent higher than the guest numbers recorded in 2019. As it happens, December was also the busiest month in the fourth quarter, as it received 7.8 million guests for 2023. So, Quarter 3 remained the quarter with the highest traffic since 2019 with 23 million guests while August was the busiest with 7.9 million guests.

The Airport Managed 77.5 Million Bags In 2023

Additionally, Dubai processed 77.5 million bags in 2023, which is the highest volume of bags managed during a calendar year. And even though there was a 24.6% year-on-year increase in volume, the airport maintained its unmatched success rate of 99.8%. This means there were only 2.4 mishandled bags per 1000 passengers. In fact, 95% of the guests experienced less than seven minutes of waiting time at departure passport control. However, the average waiting time at the security check was less than four minutes for 97.5% of guests.

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that the top country with the highest traffic was India. This was followed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the UK, Pakistan, the US, Russia, and Germany. So, with the achievements out for 2023, forecasts show that in 2024, DXB might receive 88.8 million guests. This will put it at a striking distance with the all-time record of 89.1 million guests in 2018.
