Dubai Police Honoured For Their Act Of Kindness Towards Family With Child Of Determination

The current lockdown has been extremely hard on all of us. Staying indoors 24/7 is certainly not an easy task and so was it for Ruby. The lockdown turned specifically hard for Stephanie Hamilton, when she had to take Ruby on a bike ride to calm her down. Hamilton’s daughter Ruby has a down syndrome and is autistic.

The parents were seeking permission to take their daughter on a bike ride to pacify her, which would have otherwise made her extremely unhappy. Initially, the Dubai Police rejected the plea. Later, they discovered the plea was applied under the wrong category. The couple then tweaked the permit settings to “personal” followed by “emergency”. They even added a note-“exercise for person of determination” against the reason for emergency.

Meanwhile, a kind-hearted soul had already tagged Dubai Police on the same post on her Instagram account. This led to a prompt response from the Dubai Police, one of whom immediately called Hamilton. They clarified to the couple that they need to mention their ‘reasons’ clearly, without merely asking for an emergency permit. The couple was then granted an-hour-long permit, which left Ruby thrilled!

In her FB post Stephanie urges that it would be great to have a visual indicator to help identify such people. This will also help to understand that such residents are not violators but have stepped out due to compelling reasons.
