There are plans to expand Dubai Metro as the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has reached out to contractors for this significant development. This was revealed by Arabian Business in its report, wherein it mentioned that according to the notice seen by them, the Dubai RTA has invited contractors. This invitation has been extended to them for designing and constructing the new blue line. As a part of the Dubai Metro network, international contractors will be required to collaborate with local partners for this venture.

Moreover, this scope of extensive project includes everything from civil works and electro-mechanical work to even rolling stock and rail systems. Not to mention, the selected contractor will play a favourable role in the maintenance and operation of the new metro system for the first three years. As it happens, this upcoming Blue Line will also bridge the existing, Red and Green lines. As a result, it may be covering a distance of 30 km.

What Are The Highlights Of The Blue Line?

In case you’re wondering about the upcoming metro line, according to the report, this is expected to cover a total distance of 30 km. So, it’s worth mentioning that about half of this amounts to approximately 15.5 km, which will be underground. The remaining distance will be elevated, above the ground. As it happens, it is expected that the railway line might feature 14 stations, which may also include seven elevated stops. Moreover, there might be five underground stations, which can also include an interchange station and two elevated transfer stations. These will be connected to the Creek and Centrepoint stations.

The Contract Is Not Just For Railway Infrastructure

Going by the report, it was also revealed that it’s not just the railway infrastructure that’s included in the contract. Yes, it also extends to driverless trains and the construction of a depot, which will be able to accommodate up to 60 trains. So, a supply of 28 driverless trains and the development of associated roads, utilities, diversion works, and even facilities have been mentioned. Additionally, this detailed scope of work also incorporates civil engineering, procurement and delivery of operation control system, and electromechanical design & execution.

It’s worth mentioning that this project is in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. For those who aren’t aware, the Urban Master Plan is estimated to cost several billion dollars and this was unveiled in the March of 2021. The plan also includes the 20 Minutes Strategy, which aims to offer emirate residents 80% of their daily needs within a 20-mile radius, this is extended to both on foot or by bicycle.
