On February 17, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority unveiled the fourth generation of traditional abras. With the aim of upgrading the city’s marine network, the newly designed traditional boat used for marine transportation has seen quite an upgrade. Here’s all you need to know about the redesigned abras that can now accommodate up to 24 passengers, which was formerly at 20.

With the aim of improving the commuting experience for daily riders, the Dubai RTA has unveiled a newly redesigned Abra. This new design can accommodate 24 passengers and it appears to be according to the Dubai Universal Design Code. So, it also ensures safety, accessibility, and comfort for all.

Talking about upgrades, they include enhanced seating, an efficient layout with dedicated spaces for people of determination, and even improved flooring. This means everybody travelling with the help of this mode of transport can make use of the new improved design for a comfortable journey through the Dubai waters.

What Do These Upgrades Entail?

In fact, as revealed by Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, who is the CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency revealed that technological enhancements have also been implemented. Yes, for this purpose, advanced smart systems for public transport, safety alerts, and real-time passenger information screens have also been added. Moreover, digital destination boards have also been introduced for the first time. This supports the Dubai RTA’s efforts of boasting marine transport, while also strengthening connectivity in Dubai. It seems travelling by abras is bound to feel easier now!

The development is hardly surprising as Dubai already is known for being a world-class destination that attracts millions of visitors each year. And the efforts of enhancing the marine system, this move has been designed to offer a better commuting experience for daily riders.
