When you are travelling on the road, chances are that you often see heavy-duty vehicles rolling on the highways transporting goods. However, have you wondered how difficult life might be for these lorry drivers, especially as they’re constantly on the road? Well, to make things easier for them, there are plans afoot to build 19 rest stops that will boost their safety. Here’s all you need to know about these upcoming rest stops.

19 Rest Stops To Come Up In Dubai For Lorry Drivers

Dubai Roads & Transport Authority is striving to build 19 advanced rest stops according to their recent post on Twitter. These also include lay-bys on a variety of roadside locations, which is being built with private-sector partnership. According to a report by the National News, three integrated truck lay-bys are going to be developed. One of these rest stops is going to be done in collaboration with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc). However, the other two will be done with Almutakamela Vehicle Testing and Registration. Not to mention, Dubai RTA in cooperation with Adnoc will build 16 stops across Dubai at key destinations for a significant influx of lorries daily.

Where Will These Rest Stops Come Up?

In case you’re wondering, these lorry stops will be built on the roads of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Dubai-Hatta Road, Dubai-Al Ain Road, Emirates Road, Jebel Ali – Lehbab Road, and Al Aweer Road. Moreover, the total area proposed for lay-bys and rest stops is over 300,000 m² that can accommodate over 1000 heavy vehicles. As such, the report also mentioned that when this is completed, drivers will be provided with essential services that prioritise their safety and well-being.

Some of these services include motels, restaurants, prayer, rooms, administrative buildings, diesel refuelling stations, pharmacies, laundry centres, clinics, and even exchange shops. The lay-bys that Almutakamela Vehicle Testing and Registration will help build, will come up on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. This will be near the Jebel Ali free zone and Al Maktoum International Airport and near the entry of the Dubai Industrial City. The third lay-by which will be run by Adnoc will be built near Emirates. road, next to Al Tayy Racetrack.

So, with these structures built, it will certainly help the lorry drivers immensely.
