Dubai To Get Its Own Monopoly Board This November

If there was one thing that ruled the 80s-90s childhood it definitely was board games! And of all the innumerable games we’ve played, Monopoly bags the top spot, doesn’t it? After all the joy of buying and trading properties, and developing them with houses and hotels was unmatchable. Now, Dubai gives you a golden opportunity to re-live your childhood. The 90’s favourite Monopoly will soon boast a Dubai-makeover and we can’t wait to start rolling the dice. The game’s Dubai edition will be available from 4 November, arriving in time for Christmas and New Year parties!

What Is Monopoly?

Monopoly is an age-old board game which first hit the shelves in 1935. Since then, it has been played by more than 1 billion people. Today, it is played in 114 countries and enjoyed in over 47 different languages. The core purpose of the game is to buy and sell properties and develop them with hotels and houses. When the dice rolls on your property, you collect rent from the opponents, making them bankrupt. The winner is the one player who always has money in his kitty and does not go bankrupt.

Meanwhile, did you know Dubai has a cafe dedicated to boardgames?

What’s It?

Dubai is getting its own Monopoly board next month, making it the first city in the Middle East to boast such a feat. Although its unclear which iconic Dubai attractions will make it to the famous board game, we’re certain the Burj Khalifa and The Palm have their spots reserved. In fact, the iconic Atlantis was chosen to announce the grand news and the event was graced by none other than Mr. Monopoly himself!

Mr. Monopoly is all set to loiter around town, engaging in interesting activities. And if you want to track the man in the top hat, follow #MrMonopolyinTown and #MonopolyDXB on Instagram. If you’re lucky, you might also win a chance to meet him at one of his next locations. Players will have a chance to ‘Pass Go’ when Mr. Monopoly reveals his new board on the 4 November. Until then, the keep guessing!

Winning Moves, manufacturers of the official Dubai version of Monopoly, said: “We are thrilled to bring the official Dubai Monopoly board game to residents and tourists of the region. This edition will be everything you love about the traditional game, adapted in a way that Dubai will enjoy for generations to come.”

This is not the first time UK-based Winning Moves is creating a customized city edition. Previously, city-themed editions include: Dublin (Ireland), Leon (France), Krakow (Poland) and Sydney and Melbourne (Australia) and Durban (South Africa).
