What Is Ehsan Station By The Dubai Municipality For Feeding Stray Animals?

The Dubai Municipality, in a noble gesture, has launched the Ehsan Station initiative. As revealed by the authority, this is the first-of-its-kind in the region, which is dedicated towards feeding the stray animals. It is done through AI-powered smart devices that are installed across the emirate. Here’s all to know about this noble initiative launched during the holy month of Ramadan.

What Is The Ehsan Station Initiative?

Ehsan Station initiative reflects the ongoing effort of the municipality that aims to foster a culture of compassion and generosity. Launched by the Dubai Municipality, it aims to advance animal welfare and offer environmental sustainability while preserving the urban landscape of the emirate. It is a part of the emirate’s initiative to install 12 smart devices across key locations in Dubai. This includes 10 units in public parks and two within facilities that are operated by Dubai.

How Does The Station Work?

Combining advanced technology with strategic partnerships, the Dubai Municipality reveals that the aim is to support the responsible management of the stray animal population. Not to mention, it will also help to reduce random feeding practices, which can affect public spaces and the city’s appearance. As it happens, these stations rely on an AI-based system. They are capable of identifying stray animals and even collecting relevant data and dispensing food accordingly. Moreover, the concept also aims to promote a culture of recycling, and it supports an organised and sustainable approach that aims to feed stray animals.

The Stations Are In Pilot Phase

With their being reduced random feeding, there would be proactive public health protection while also upholding the animal welfare principle. Although it is currently in the pilot stage, the stations are still being tested and evaluated. So, the Dubai Municipality will be able to draw better insights for further announcements and development of the initiative.

It’s worth mentioning that this comes at a time when the Dubai Municipality has also adopted a scientific and human approach for the management of stray and free-roaming animals. Implementing the Trap–Neuter–Return programme, in some cases, there is also a Trap–Neuter–Vaccinate–Return programme. These programmes include trapping cats or other stray animals, neutering them, vaccinating them, and then returning them to the original location. This is done given they’re not a risk to themselves or members of the community. In fact, some animals are even made available for adoption through the Dubai Municipality website.
