Durga Puja 2023: This Unique Phuchka-Themed Pandal Has Come To Kolkata. Khabe Naki?

What are some of the first things that pop into your mind when you talk about Durga Puja? For me, it is pandal hopping, witnessing the glory of pandals and idols, praying, dhak er awaj, dhunuchi naach, spending time with family and friends, and eating onek onek khabar (lots of food). When it comes to street food, phuchka is my favourite just like many other Bengalis. And this time, a Kolkata pandal has been made of phuchkas. Isn’t it unique?

Durga Puja Pandal Decorated With Phuchkas

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, Safir (@safiranand) has shared a video of one of Kolkata’s famous Durga Puja pandals and we are so excited to see the highlight of the decoration.

One of South Kolkata’s popular pandals to visit during the festival is the Behala Nutan Dal Durga Puja pandal. And this time, the committee has come up with a unique theme of ‘Tushti’ (satisfaction). The pandal is themed about this brilliant concept and a lot of new innovations have been added to the decor and intricacies to bring the imaginations to life. One of the major highlights here is phuchka used in adorning the interiors. Modelled around everything related to this beloved street food, a lot of focus has been added to beautify the theme and represent one of the city’s best pandals.

To construct this pandal themed on the idea of contentment, Martyna Maria Pekala and Benjamin van Pompe visited Kolkata, according to a report by The Telegraph India. They are Dutch artists and they visited the City of Joy back in September to work on the pandal. They joined hands with Ayan Saha, a local artist, to work on the Behala Nutan Dal puja pandal. One of their significant additions to the celebration is a video with some magnificent pictures and visuals of Kolkata.

Such A Beautiful Theme & Presentation!

From the initial steps of making phuchka to selling them by storing them in a glass box, the pandal has been modelled to present the A-Z of this famous Kolkata street food. Rolling pin and board, glass boxes with phuckas, walls decked up with this fried food item, cane stands, and phuchkas served in saal pata are added to the pandal. The attention to detail of each and every nook and corner is simply splendid.

Netizens love the interesting concept of this Durga Puja pandal of South Kolkata. The unique connection between a pandal and Kolkata’s famous street food and satisfaction is making the headlines. This is one of the many pandals in the City of Joy that is surely the talk of the town and everyone is waiting to visit there.

A lot of hard work and effort goes into constructing such massively stunning Durga Puja pandals. Kudos to all the artists working relentlessly to present such magnificent pandals and beautiful idols.

I don’t know about everyone but gulping on phuchka after phuchka is surely my journey to satisfaction. Are you going to visit Behala Nutan Dal Durga Puja pandal this year?
