Tremors from the earthquake near Nepal-Tibet border were felt in several states of North India as well. Affected areas included Delhi-NCR, Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal. The strongest tremors in India were reported in Bihar. People rushed outside their homes after feeling the tremors. However, no damage has been reported following the earthquake.
Nepal lies in a geologically and seismically active region. It lies where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, forming the Himalayas. This contributes to frequent earthquakes and the worst one in recent years was recorded in 2015. More than 9,000 people died and around 22,000 were injured after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. Also, half a million homes were destroyed in the disaster.
