In heartbreaking news, the roof of a food court at a busy shopping complex in Peru collapsed on Friday. The accident robbed three lives and left 74 people injured, who were immediately transported to nearby hospitals. This unfortunate incident happened in northern Peru.

Roof Of Food Court In Peru Collapses

Real Plaza, a popular shopping complex in northern Peru faced a devastating accident on Friday. Located 500 km north of the capital, Lima, the shopping complex was a preferred weekend spot amongst locals. Unfortunately, the roof of the food court collapsed at around 8:41 PM (local time) when diners were enjoying their meal. The accident killed three people– two men and one woman– and injured 74 people.

Anibal Morillo, a local government health official told RPP radio that the firefighting team evacuated 74 injured people to nearby hospitals and clinics. 10 out of them were children. While 11 were seriously injured. Local media reports reveal that dozens of families were huddled in the food court of Real Plaza shopping mall when the roof gave way. Real Plaza is located in Trujillo, Peru’s third-largest city. Over 100 firefighters and police officers are still combing through debris to search for survivors.

Firefighters Carry Out Rescue Missions

Morillo stated to broadcaster Panamericana that a child was trapped under the roof’s metal structures. Juan Jose Santivanez, the interior minister stated that the collapsed roof area spanned 700 to 800 metres. The minister also stated to Canal N television channel, that they require hydraulic cranes to lift part of the roof. A certain part of the collapsed roof has still not been removed due to it being very heavy. There might be many trapped under it, so authorities are working round the clock to carry out rescues. The cause for the collapse of the roof is still unknown as authorities carry out search and rescue operations.
