Telangana Food Safety Dept Find Hygiene Violations At Secunderabad Eateries

Officers from Telangana’s Commissioner of Food Safety inspected several restaurants in Secunderabad on July 8. At several popular eateries, they uncovered hygiene violations that have brought to light the state of food safety in Telangana.

They posted about the inspections on X (formerly Twitter). At Grill 9, the food inspectors found multiple expired items. According to a report in The Hindu, they found 35 packets of Potli Masala that expired in April 2022. They also found 1.4 kg sauce and 13 packets of Garlic Chilli Sauce that were also expired. Additionally, they found a discarded bottle of cosmetic rose water that they suspect the restaurant was using as a food ingredient.

That’s not all, they also reported a possible rat infestation at the restaurant as there were rat faeces in the restaurant’s storeroom. The food safety department team also noted that many food handlers were not wearing hairnets, gloves or uniforms. In the kitchen, they found uncovered and improperly labelled food inside their refrigerator. Also, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items were stored together there.

The food safety team then visited Vivaha Bhojanambu. At this restaurant, they found a pack of 25 kg of rice that expired way back in 2022! The team also found 500 gm of grated coconut containing synthetic food colours. In the kitchen, they reported raw and semi-prepared food items stored in covered but not properly labelled steel containers. There was water stagnation in kitchen drains and some dustbins lacked lids.

387 Hostels Inspected And 1 Shut In Hyderabad For Severe Violation

Besides restaurants, a team of Telenagana’s Commissioner of Food Safety has also been inspecting government and private hostels in the state over the past six months. So far, they have inspected 387 hostels and issued necessary notices for any hygiene violations.

During their inspections, they found that many hostels were operating without the required FSSAI licence. During one of these raids, they had to shut down one establishment in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Zone due to severe violations.

These growing cases of food violations are really concerning. We hope that Telenagana’s Commissioner of Food Safety takes strict action against all the violators to set an example for other eating establishments. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments.
