What’s In It?

With the state government’s Mumbai 24X7 initiative, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has updated the food truck policy in the city to enhance the nightlife of the city. The BMC announced that food trucks will now be operating from 11 pm to 5 am. In this updated law, four to five food trucks will be allowed in any given ward. Also, these food trucks will have designated spots around areas that do not have many restaurants in the vicinity.

Under this new policy, food trucks will be issued licenses under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act and operate under the ‘Food Truck Preparation and Sale of Eatables’ regulations. Food truck owners will also have to obtain a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license and clearances from the fire brigade and RTO. What’s More?

Initially, many restaurant owners were facing stiff competition from food trucks but now the BMC has found a clever way that is a win-win situation for all. Also, it is important to note that the state government’s policy to update the nightlife policy from January 27th, met with a timid response. While malls were allowed to remain open round-the-clock, many closed down at 10 pm. However, with these updated measures, we hope that the glitter of the Mumbai night-life shines even more.
