There is an important update. Maharashtra will observe a four-day dry period from January 13 to 16. All bars, liquor shops and permit rooms have been ordered to remain closed during these days. The reason is the upcoming municipal elections. The government has enforced these rules to ensure peaceful and safe voting. Here’s more on this.

4-Day Dry Period In Maharashtra 

Municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra are scheduled to be held on January 15. In preparation, the state government has announced a four-day dry period from January 13 to 16. According to a report by Pune Mirror, this dry spell will be observed across 29 civic bodies where voting is set to take place. The sale, purchase and consumption of alcohol will be strictly prohibited during this time.

Reportedly, the move has been taken to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful campaigning while facilitating free and fair elections. The dry period will begin as election campaigning comes to an end on January 13. This also marks the conclusion of public rallies and political activities by parties and candidates.

Liquor Shops And Bars To Remain Shut

As per a report by Pune Mirror, the administration has announced that liquor stores, bars, permit rooms and all establishments selling alcohol will remain closed for the entire four-day duration within the designated municipal corporation limits. Strict penalties may be imposed on those who fail to follow these rules and regulations.

Authorities have urged citizens, voters and business owners to support the decision and follow the rules. You should know that this step is a common preventive measure during elections to avoid any incidents and ensure a smooth voting process. Voting will take place on January 15 in several key urban areas. These include Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Mumbai.

Vote counting is scheduled for January 16. Increased monitoring will be in place across these regions to maintain public order during the election period. So, in conclusion, Maharashtra is set to observe dry days from January 13 to 16.
