Flipkart is a major e-commerce company that sells a huge range of products, including phones, clothes, electronics and more. But now, the platform is all set to enter the food delivery business over the coming weeks. Here’s what we know about this development so far.

Flipkart To Launch Its Own Food Delivery App

Other Indian food delivery apps may soon have new competition. Flipkart, the e-commerce giant, could become your next favourite app to order snacks, lunch and late-night meals. According to The Times of India, Flipkart will enter the food delivery business by launching a separate app while also making the service available through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

The Walmart-owned company is expected to begin with a pilot launch in Bengaluru within the next 30 days. After that, it may expand to other cities. Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy told TOI that the platform will begin with a pilot, gather customer feedback and then decide how to scale the service across the rest of the country.

Flipkart: A Gen Z-Focused Company

Swiggy and Zomato are the two platforms that currently dominate the food delivery business in India. Both apps are extremely popular, and millions of people rely on them. However, Flipkart’s Group CEO told The Times of India that he believes there is still room for new businesses to enter the market. According to Datum Intelligence estimates, cited by TOI, Zomato held around 57% of India’s food delivery market at the end of December, while Swiggy accounted for the remaining 43%.

Flipkart also believes it is a Gen Z-focused company, as everything from fashion and beauty to electronics and clothing is available on its app and website. If the company enters the food delivery business, you never know; it might just become your next favourite food delivery app too.
