Rava upma, a popular South Indian dish made from semolina, mustard seeds, curry leaves and spices, is the ultimate comfort food. It is warm, soft, fast to cook and easy on the stomach, and comedian Sumukhi Suresh would agree with us. She has been in London for two weeks and, instead of feeling homesick, she is badly craving upma and feeling rather ‘upma-sick’.

Sumukhi took to her Instagram handle to say that upma is like medicine. It is soft, and eating it feels like “when a man is more attracted to you than you are attracted to him. It is dependable, and it won’t cheat on you.” These comical lines about upma made us giggle a little, but honestly, we also agree with Sumukhi. She also shared that she was not able to find upma at all in London. Sumukhi found dal chawal, rajma chawal, chole bhature, and even Southall written in Punjabi, but not fresh rava upma in London.

Netizens Recommend Places To Eat Upma In London

Under the video, she wrote a caption that read, “Anyone coming from India to London? Bring Upma like Rani got gobi paratha for Hrithik in Mujhse Dosti Karoge!” Netizens were quick to flood the comments section with their own recommendations for finding authentic upma in London. One user wrote that she could find it at MTR in Harrow, a legendary century-old vegetarian restaurant from Bengaluru serving South Indian food.

Another user asked her to visit a local Tesco store where they sell upma and poha in boxes. Sumukhi clearly did not like the suggestion of having packaged upma. A third user recommended Taste of India for vegetarian food, while Sarasas was also recommended. Apart from these, there are several other spots in London for upma, including Siddhi Restaurant in East London, Kula Cafe and Sakonis in Wembley.
