Famous sweets of Odisha like Chhena Poda and Rasagola are all set to get costlier after the Raksha Bandhan celebrations in 2026. The price of raw ingredients like cottage cheese, sugar and elaichi has surged, which may impact your favourite Pahala sweets in the market. Here’s what we know.
Sweets In Odisha May Get Costlier After Raksha Bandhan
Pahala sweets like Rasagola and Chhena Poda may get costlier post Raksha Bandhan in Odisha. According to The New Indian Express, this is because of the rising prices of chhena (cottage cheese) and other essential commodities like sugar and firewood. Reportedly, the price of chhena from local suppliers has increased by ₹20 per kg after the OMFED milk price was hiked by ₹4 per litre. Not just that, but the price of sugar has also gone up by ₹30 per kg, along with cardamom (elaichi) and firewood.
Despite the increase in the price of raw materials, the cost of sweets like Rasagola, Chhena Poda and Chhena Gaja has remained unchanged as of now. But this may not continue for long, and sweet makers have decided to revise the price or adjust the quantity of sweets.

Raids Are Being Carried Out At Sweet Shops
According to The New Indian Express, Rasagola is being sold at ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20, depending on its size. Whereas Chhena Poda is being sold in the range of ₹280-300. Amid concerns over rising prices, raids are also being carried out at different sweet shops over the use of adulterated paneer or chhena. Following these raids, some suppliers have stopped the supply of chhena out of fear, reducing the quantity available in the markets. This has also impacted the overall business.
Reportedly, food safety officials are carrying out inspections at regular intervals at multiple sweet shops in Pahala, Chakeisiani and nearby areas. Some vendors have even faced fines over stale products and poor hygiene.
