From An Amritsar Boy To A New York Chef, Chef Vikas Khanna Talks About His Journey

Undoubtedly, Vikas Khanna is one of the most humble and good-looking celebrity chefs in the world! He managed to make a mark in the culinary world with his talent and immense love for cooking. Owning multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, Vikas went on a food trail and chatted with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani on this episode of Tere Gully Mein in Bandra. Today, we highlight his journey, from a boy in Amritsar who fell in love with food at an early age to a renowned chef in the entire world! Catch the video live on our YouTube channel to learn more about him.

Chef Vikas Khanna Shared His Thoughts When He Landed In New York City

It was a delightful episode where Kamiya and Vikas enjoyed a delectable spread of Chinese food at Chef’s Platter in Bandra East. Our Editor-in-Chief asked him, “How did the Amritsar boy get to New York?” He shared the thoughts running through his mind when he landed in New York City. He assured himself that he was worth more than what other people or critics say or write about him.

Vikas revealed to us that people would constantly tell him that he was not enough as a chef, an artist and an entrepreneur. Those same folks would point out that he lacked the talent, artistic capacities and specialities that are needed to be an Indian cuisine chef. Despite the naysayers, he had faith in himself and had only one thing to express to those cynical individuals, “You are saying this because you are scared of me!”

He continued, “I am telling myself, not to be scared of these people who are intimidating you.” His thoughts were very clear about these negative comments and people. He knew that they were intimidated because his talents challenged them.

Next, he talked about how bringing flavoursome Indian cuisine into the American world by a person of colour, who wasn’t raised there, is a tough thing to do. But he stood up for himself with pride and honour. We are so happy about your journey, Chef!
