From Free Travel To 6-Hour Pass, Women In Bangalore, Rajkot & Hyderabad Take Note!

International Women’s Day — the day dedicated to recognising the strength of every woman and pledging to make their lives better. And not to forget the discounts offered at every store! Governments around the world also implement certain schemes for women like free travel. In Hyderabad, Rajkot and Bangalore, the authorities had made travel free for women. Take a look at this great initiative in these three cities.

Free Travel On Women’s Day

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) offered free travel on Wednesday. The authorities estimated around two lakh women would opt for this scheme. But around twenty-two lakh women travelled by city buses. The North and West divisions had the highest number of ridership. And the corporation has not revealed the cost incurred for free travel.

While in Rajkot, more than eighteen thousand women travelled on city buses free of cost on Wednesday. Around ten thousand women travelled by city buses and the remaining travelled by BRTS buses. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) also allows free travel for women on occasions like Raksha Bandhan and Bhaiduj.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has launched a new six-hour pass that enables women and senior citizens to travel anywhere in the city for just ₹50. But from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This has made travel cheaper for women and senior citizens. The pass will be valid for all non-air-conditioned buses within the suburban limits of Hyderabad throughout the week.

Indian Government Schemes For Women

The Ministry of Women & Child Development is responsible for various schemes implemented by the government. Two of the most important schemes by them are ‘NIRBHAYA’ and ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’. These schemes have proven to be effective across the country. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao ensures that every girl child receives an education. And NIRBHAYA was put into action after the horrendous crime committed in Delhi. It ensures that every woman feels safe and protected.

Besides this, they have a women’s helpline number where you can contact and report your problems. There are Mahila Shakti Kendras (MSK) that provide a platform for rural women to avail their rights and empower them through training, capacity building and awareness generation.
