STAAH, the hospitality technology provider, has released its annual analysis of top revenue-generating distribution channels for Indian hotels in 2024. The findings highlight both the continued dominance of major online travel agencies or OTAs and an emerging shift towards direct bookings. As per the findings of the analysis, these are India’s most preferred booking channels.
What The Analysis Has Revealed About Indian Booking Habits
GoMMT has maintained its position as India’s leading online booking platform, with Agoda and Booking.com securing second and third positions respectively. These prominent OTAs continue to wield considerable influence throughout the travel planning and booking journey.
They leverage their extensive reach and substantial marketing budgets. Notably, STAAH SwiftBook, the company’s direct booking engine for hotel websites, has climbed two positions to fourth place, reflecting a growing trend towards direct reservations.
According to Rajesh Ghanshani, Director of Partnerships at STAAH, this shift can be attributed to increased hotel investment in website infrastructure, including enhanced booking engines and payment solutions.

The top 10 rankings have welcomed three newcomers: Cleartrip, Hotelbeds and RezLive.com. This indicated hoteliers’ willingness to embrace a diverse, multichannel strategy to reach specialised market segments. Global distribution systems have shown steady performance, with STAAH GDS securing the seventh position.
The Indian hospitality sector has experienced robust post-pandemic recovery. It is driven by two key factors: international visitors seeking medical and spiritual experiences, and a burgeoning middle class with significant disposable income.
Ghanshani notes that today’s hotel guests demonstrate more sophisticated booking behaviours and preferences. The data suggests that successful accommodation providers are those adopting a comprehensive online commerce approach. Especially those that incorporate both traditional and emerging distribution methods.
As India’s tourism and hospitality sectors continue their projected growth trajectory, hotels that embrace this holistic strategy are best positioned to capitalise on the expanding market opportunities.
