While travelling by air is convenient as it generally saves time, there is a set of important rules and regulations one must follow, to travel. In fact, Dubai International Airport, which is regarded as one of the world’s busiest airports, has put out a list of things that passengers are allowed or not allowed to carry. So, in its latest tweet, the DXB reminded passengers that security is an important aspect of travelling and a vital one at that. With this, a set of guidelines were also rolled out, naming a list of banned and allowed things at the Dubai International Airport. Here’s more!

A List Of Prohibited & Permitted Things At DXB

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority has issued a comprehensive list of things that are allowed and banned to carry in your bags. These have been divided into the following categories.

What Are Some Of The Things Allowed In Your Carry-on & Check-in Bag?

  • A Baggage that has been installed lithium batteries – If it’s non-removable batteries, must contain only up to 0.3 g lithium metal or lithium-ion, up to 2.7 Watt-hour. In the case of removable batteries, they must be removed during check-in. And these will then have to be carried in the cabin.
  • Gas cylinders that are non-flammable, non-toxic, and worn for the operation of mechanical limbs. This also includes spare cylinders of a similar size, that might be needed for ensuring adequate supply for the duration of the journey.
  • Hair styling equipment – These include those which contain a hydrocarbon gas cartridge, up to one (1) per passenger or crew member. However, you must ensure that the safety cover secures the heating element. It’s worth noting that these should not be used on board the aircraft. Similarly, the spare gas cartridges for hair styling equipment aren’t allowed in checked or carry-on baggage.
  • Lithium Batteries – For portable electronic devices that contain lithium metal, lithium-ion cells, or batteries, including medical devices and electronics (like mobile phones and laptops). For lithium-metal batteries, the lithium metal content must only be up to 2 g. While for lithium-ion batteries, the Watt-hour rating should be up to 100 WH. These electronic devices in checked baggage must be switched off and protected from damage. And every person is allowed only up to a maximum of 15 portable electronic devices.
  • Lithium battery-powered electronic devices – Lithium-ion batteries for portable electronic devices, must have a Watt Hour rating between 100 Wh and 160 Wh. While the same for a portable medical electronic device lithium metal batteries with a lithium metal content must be between 2g and 8g. You must ensure all these devices in checked baggage are switched off and protected from damage.

What Are Items Allowed Only In The Carry-on Baggage & Not In The Check-in One?

  • Batteries that include both spare and loose, with lithium batteries, non-spillable batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries or dry batteries for portable electronic devices. These can be carried in carry-on baggage only!
  • Fuel cells that contain fuel, powering portable electronic devices (like cameras).
  • E-cigarettes (like personal vaporizers) that contain batteries. These must be adequately protected to ensure there is no accidental activation.

What Are The Items Allowed Only In Checked-in Baggage & Not In The Carry-on?

  • Mobility Aids – These include battery-powered wheelchairs or other similar devices. They must be with non-spillable wet batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries or dry batteries.
  • Battery-powered wheelchairs (and other similar mobility devices) having spillable or lithium-ion batteries are allowed.
  • Thermometer, medical, or clinical – These can contain mercury, with just one per person allowed for personal use. They must, however, be in a protective case.
