From Vicky Kaushal To Tripti Dimri, Mukesh Chhabra Has Launched These Bollywood Actors!

In the latest episode of Tere Gully Mein, we explored Central Delhi and the National School of Drama with renowned Bollywood casting director and filmmaker Mukesh Chhabra. While we were gorging on some Ram Laddus, we asked him if he could remember how many actors he has launched in his career. Here’s what he said.

“Number toh yaad nahi hai par, but kaffi hai. Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao, Vicky Kaushal, Sanya Malhotra, Tripti Dimri, Sobhita Dhulipala, Avinash Tiwary, Mrunal Thakur…bahut saare log hai,” Mukesh Chhabra listed some of the actors he helped launch in Bollywood.

While we were at it, we couldn’t help but wonder if he ever regretted casting someone in a movie. With a little smile, he said, “Haan, bilkul hota hai but you don’t say. Humko lagta dekh kar baad main, yeah wrong casting hai…hota hai, kai baar hota hai. You also grow with your work, right? When you look at your previous work, sometimes you feel proud. Sometimes you feel agar casting galt baith jati toh dukh hota hai.”

Has Success Changed Him?

Being one of the biggest casting directors of Bollywood, what does success mean to Mukesh Chhabra? “For me, success means you wake up every morning and go to work. You don’t have to look for work the next morning. It isn’t about buying cars or homes, jab tak zinda ho kaam hona chahiye! Hum sab freelancer hai, permanent job toh hai nahi, toh agar roz kaam hai toh isse bada success aur koi nahi hai,” he said.

Has success ever gotten to his head? Mukesh Chhabra revealed that he had a phase, about 5-6 years back, when he thought very highly of himself. He shared that for almost six months, he was riding high on his success and became quite arrogant. He was quick to realise his mistake and thanked his mother and friends like Imtiaz Ali and Hansal Mehta for making sure he got back on the right track.
