As per a recent development, Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal is all set to enter a new venture. Yes, you read that right! According to sources, he is now stepping into the aviation space with LAT Aerospace, a startup co-founded with Surobhi Das, the former COO of Zomato.
Deepinder Goyal To Enter Aviation Sector With LAT Aerospace
According to a report in TOI, Deepinder Goyal is now venturing into aviation with LAT Aerospace. The startup plans to upgrade air travel and make it far more affordable than it currently is. LAT Aerospace will be a joint venture between Deepinder Goyal and Surobhi Das, who is the former COO of Zomato. They aim to build a fleet of short take-off and landing aircraft with just 12 to 24 seats, while cutting down on travel time.
In a LinkedIn post, Surobhi Das wrote, “Ever wished your next bus ride could just take off?” As per her post, the aircraft will take off from small landing zones close to where people live. This means it will work just like public transport, without the usual chaos of airports. Moreover, LAT Aerospace plans to offer a ‘walk-in and fly’ experience, eliminating waiting time and making air travel a lot easier.
Demand-Based Aircraft By LAT Aerospace
The LinkedIn post also stated that India has over 450 airstrips, but only 150 are used for commercial flights. That means nearly two-thirds of India’s aviation potential is going to waste. On top of that, most people still spend hours or even days travelling by road or rail. This is what inspired them to start a business that connects India like railways, but through the air. The post also informed that the air stops won’t be bigger than a parking lot and won’t require security checks. The flights will be demand-based as well.
According to TOI, the startup has raised around $50 million (₹417 crores approx.) so far, with $20 million (₹167 crores approx.) invested by Deepinder Goyal himself. The company also announced it is hiring aerospace engineers, system designers, and aviation enthusiasts to bring this vision to life.
