Gelder was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December 2023. Daniels shared that the illness progressed rapidly, leaving them both unprepared for his passing. “He was my absolute rock and we’d been partners for more than 30 years,” Daniels wrote, expressing his profound grief.
While “Game of Thrones” brought Gelder international recognition, his career spanned over four decades. A classically trained actor, Gelder honed his craft on the British stage. He appeared in numerous productions at prestigious venues like the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
