The lighthouse gives a breath-taking view of the entire city of Chennai which should definitely top your list. It is located by the longest beach in the country, the Marina beach.

What Is It?

The first thing that comes to anybody’s mind on saying Chennai, is the very  famous Marina Beach. It is an iconic place and adds charm to the city. The lighthouse is located right by the beach and is missed out by a lot of tourists and even locals surprisingly. A mandatory trip to the lighthouse when visiting the beach is definitely worth it to get some magnificent views of the city. Even on hot afternoons, the weather up there is very breezy and cool. There is also a museum at the entrance for people who wish to visit.

What Else To Do?

Apart from the lighthouse, you can plan to have a nice peaceful evening listening to the sound of the waves and watching the shades of the sky change colours. There are also a variety of food stalls selling everything right from sea food, hot bajjis to ice creams  and spring potatoes.

Morning and evening walks are perfect to catch just a little sun and while doing so you can spot the many lovely buildings and be amazed at the Colonial-style architecture — from University of Madras’ Senate House to Presidency College and Fort St George, and more. You can even find statues in honour of Mahatma Gandhi and memorials of politicians like MGR and Annadurai. So get a dose of history and culture the next time you head to this beach.
