The Indian Army has once again made India proud! Two soldiers from the Indian Army won the first-ever gold medal for India at the recently held World Rowing Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland. According to The Times of India, Havildars Ujjwal Kumar Singh and Lakshay crossed the finish line in six minutes and 26.09 seconds to win the Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls gold medal. The official X page of Indian Army Sports and Adventure also congratulated the men and wrote, “Proud moment for the Indian Army and the nation!”
The Indian Army men finished ahead of Hong Kong (6:27.14) and the Netherlands (6:27.36) in a photo-finish victory. The result is being considered a major achievement, as India had never won a gold medal in the World Rowing Cup series.

Victory Highlights Years Of Hard Work & Training
According to NDTV, Lakshay and Ujjwal Kumar Singh are both serving soldiers in the Indian Army. They are part of an Indian contingent in Lucerne that has been built entirely through the armed forces system. The victory also highlights the growing competitiveness of Indian rowing on the international stage, particularly in non-Olympic and lightweight categories.
Colonel Ramakrishnan, Commanding Officer of the Army Rowing Node, shared with NDTV that the medal is a defining and historic achievement for Indian rowing. He also spoke about how this achievement reflects years of hard work, discipline and world-class training at the Army Rowing Node.
