When it comes to office work, many people now prefer working from the comfort of their homes. This has made it a real challenge for companies to bring employees back to the office. Guess what? A US-based AI startup has found a unique solution, it’s paying employees to show up. Read on to know more!
How Is This Startup Getting People Back To The Office?
Instead of repeatedly asking employees to come to the office, a US-based AI startup has come up with an interesting solution. And honestly, it’s quite appealing. The idea is simple, pay employees to show up. As per News18, those working in the US can earn $500 (around ₹46,000) every quarter if they come to the office at least two days a week.
According to a Business Insider report, Superhuman, which owns platforms like Grammarly, initially tried to make it mandatory for its engineering teams to work from the office twice a week. However, that plan didn’t work as expected, and very few employees actually showed up. Kenny Mendes, the company’s chief people officer, admitted that getting employees to return wasn’t easy. In fact, he said it felt like they were “pulling teeth” just to get people in for two days a week.

Why Employees Were Not Coming To The Office?
To understand why employees are not coming to office, they asked them about the issue. According to News18, some employees said parking was too expensive, while others didn’t like their desk setups. These may sound like small issues, but they actually made going to the office feel like a hassle.
So, Superhuman decided to switch things up. Instead of forcing people, it focused on fixing these everyday problems. And honestly, that makes a lot more sense. And guess what? It worked. Since January, the company has seen a 57% jump in daily office attendance.
A big reason behind this is the incentives. Employees who spend more time in the office get extra perks. These include commuter benefits and wellness stipends. The reward system is also quite smart. If you come in two days a week, you get $500 per quarter. If you go all in and work from the office five days a week, you can earn up to $2,000 (around ₹1,85,000) every quarter.
Honestly, this approach feels much more practical. Instead of forcing people, they’re giving them a reason to actually want to show up.
