When we visit a zoo, we usually expect to see wild animals sleeping, lazing around, or playing. We do not usually expect to see vets treating these animals at a medical care facility, right? But London Zoo will soon allow visitors to take a sneak peek at vets in action as they carry out health checks and operations on animals at a new facility. Here’s everything you need to know about this.
London Zoo to Get UK’s First Vet Hospital Viewing Gallery
According to the BBC, visitors will soon be able to watch animals like penguins, frogs, and more undergoing health checks and X-rays at a new wildlife health facility at London Zoo. Now this is something which is not really common, right? The decision was taken as the zoo celebrates its 200th anniversary. Apparently, the facility at the zoo in Regent’s Park, central London, is being funded by an anonymous donation.
The facility will bring veterinary science closer to the public with the UK’s first vet hospital viewing gallery for visitors. This facility will deliver proper care for animals, monitor diseases, and also undertake conservation work such as health-checking animals before releasing them into the wild.

New Facility Will Educate Visitors About Wildlife Care
The initiative will help educate the public about how wild animals are cared for by vets at such facilities. Plus, it also makes the whole process transparent. The vets actually want people to see the excellent care they provide and understand wildlife health better.
According to the BBC, the facility will have glass windows so that people can watch everything from outside. Inside, there will be enough space for the veterinary team and equipment like CT scanners and post-mortem facilities for stranded marine mammals. People will be able to see a variety of animals getting treatment, from penguins to tigers.
However, according to NDTV, not every treatment will be shown to the public. Complex surgeries and procedures will continue to take place in private areas away from visitors. It should also be kept in mind that this facility is being planned for education, not entertainment, so people will need to be respectful as well.
