One of the things that Goa is known for is its gushing waterfalls. Many tourists come from different parts of the country to witness the beauty of these waterfalls, especially the ones within wildlife sanctuaries. But recently, the forest department has noted many cases of people drowning in these waterfalls. Hence, the department has announced a ban on people’s entry into the sanctuary after drowning cases.

On Tuesday, Goa’s chief wildlife warden Umakant put a ban on people’s entry inside all the wildlife sanctuaries and waterfalls until the next orders.

This decision was taken after two people in South Goa drowned on Sunday. While issuing this order, Umakant mentioned that this decision was taken due to heavy rainfall in the state as well as the high water currents.

Janardhan Sadekar (55-year-old) and Shivdutt Naik (28-year-old) drowned on Sunday at the Mainapi waterfall. This waterfall is located in Sanguem in South Goa. Naik was the one who was initially drowning after which Sadekar jumped in to save his life.

People visit Goa a lot during the monsoon season and visit the beautiful waterfalls. If you check social media, it has many posts by people who visited the place and also complained about how overcrowded the sites were.

The complaints posted on social media regarding waterfalls in Goa were not limited to overcrowding but also misbehaviour. People urged the government to take proper measures regarding this and regulate people’s entry into these places. The requests were specially made for weekends.

Vishwajit Rane, the state’s forest minister, said that the department will soon review the issuance of this ban. He also ensured that the complaints would be taken into consideration and regulations would be imposed so that people could enjoy themselves properly without having to worry.

So far, over five people have lost their lives drowning in different water bodies during this monsoon season.
