A report by Deccan Herald, dives deep into the city’s upcoming flyover, touted to be the longest one in the Silicon Valley of India. If you’re wondering why Old Madras Road will be getting this flyover, then let’s tell you why. OMR sits right in the heart of Bangalore’s transit points, tech hubs and dense neighbourhoods. The fact that this road isn’t wide enough or doesn’t have adequate underpasses or flyovers, makes matters worse.

Spanning 15 km in length, as per Deccan Herald, this flyover will commence near the KR Puram police station and end at Kolathur Junction. Project Director (Bengaluru), NHAI, KB Jayakumar revealed to Deccan Herald that the flyover will release all major traffic choke points at places like TC Palya. Also, he cited this 15-km-long flyover is the only way to fix Old Madras Road’s traffic situation.

Another benefit of Bangalore’s longest flyover is that it will have a 6-lane main carriageway. KB Jayakumar states that this flyover will be longer than the  Electronics City expressway on Hosur Road (NH 4). He also adds that the flyover may be equipped with ramps at Hoskote to collect tolls. This is because shifting toll plazas altogether to Kolathur may not be cost-effective. So, after the authorities carry out a survey, they will make a final decision.

As no additional land is required, the flyover will integrate three underbridges along Old Madras Road. These are underbridges located at Katamnallur, Hoskote Junction and MVJ Hospital in Kolathur. KB Jayakumar stated to Deccan Herald that authorities won’t dismantle the underbridges. Rather, they will be redesigned and then suitably integrated into the flyover. Many vehicle users want the flyover to start at KR Puram cable bridge. But this isn’t possible as that spot is outside the purview of the NHAI jurisdiction. Also, this 2-km-long cable bridge is located above the railway line.
