Government Clarifies Rumours Of India Lockdown

On Friday, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Puri took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to address rumours of a nationwide lockdown in India. He clarified that these rumours are completely false, as the central government is not considering any such moves amid the ongoing Middle East crisis. He wrote, “Rumours of a lockdown in India are completely false. Let me state this clearly, there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India.”

Rumours of a possible lockdown arose amid panic buying at several petrol pumps and a shortage in the supply of LPG cylinders. However, Puri assured that India’s energy position is secure, as the government is leaving no chance to keep the supply of energy and fuel intact. He also mentioned how the government is closely monitoring the developments. “The global situation remains in flux, and we are closely monitoring developments across energy, supply chains, and essential commodities on a real-time basis,” he added.

He also added that India has shown resilience and will continue to act in the same way in the upcoming period. “India has consistently demonstrated resilience in the face of global uncertainties, and we will continue to act in a timely, proactive, and coordinated manner,” he concluded.

Hardeep Puri tweeted about the energy situation a few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha about the ongoing West Asia war. He informed the citizens that they do not need to worry, as the government is trying to procure gas and crude oil from all the available sources.

He also mentioned that the country’s oil position is secure, and there is enough LPG supply for both household and commercial uses.
