Travel Enthusiasts! Ladakh might have been on your bucket list since ages. But due to the unrest in the area, you might have postponed your plans. But here’s good news for you. Days after Ladakh has been declared a Separate Union Territory on October 31st, Siachen Glacier has now been declared open for tourism. Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh has informed in his latest tweet that the world highest battlefield, Siachen area is now open to tourists for tourism purposes. Siachen base camp to Kumar post, the entire area has been opened for tourism purposes. Prior to this, he quoted that Ladakh has tremendous potential in tourism. Better connectivity would certainly bring tourists in large numbers.

What Is Siachen?

Siachen is the world’s highest battlefield. Siachen is the very site where the Kargil war between the Indian Army and Pakistan-backed extremists was fought. And now tourists can get to visit this iconic spot. Tourists will now be able to travel from the base camp of Partapur at 11,000 ft to the Kumar Post at more than 15,000 ft. They will be given a permit to travel to these areas. Apart from the Indian Army organized an annual expedition from the base camp to the Kumar Post, tourists will also be able to travel independently.

The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh was in Ladakh, along with Army chief Gen. Bipin Rawat, to inaugurate a strategically located bridge across the Shyok River. This will provide easy connectivity with the Daulat Beg Oldi sector along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

Rajnath Singh has said that the new bridge will act as a strategic asset in the border areas and will also provide all-weather connectivity.  This bridge will enable swifter movement for both civilians and military. The construction of this 4.5 m wide, 1400 ft long bridge started in 2017. But now it will witness a boost to road connectivity as well as tourism.
