Grandpa Recreates Disney Ride In His Garage To Cheer Grandchildren

George Warneke from Portland, Oregon, has not been able to see his grandkids in weeks due to the lockdown. “Like everyone in the whole world right now, we are trying to cope with staying at home,” he said.

He and his wife Susie have 3 children and 6 grandchildren, who are between 2 and 6 years of age. The family has been to Disneyland quite a few times. But the famous Disney ride ‘It’s a Small World’ happens to be his grandkids’ favorite.

So just like all grandparents, he decided to do something special to see them smile. “I can’t play with my grandkids right now, but how about I play for them,” he said. And with this thought in mind, he decided to recreate their favorite Disney ride.

He found a video online of the actual ride and used that as a roadmap to create his homemade Disney ride. Using toys, trinkets, dolls and other materials from the house, George made a replica of the iconic ride in his garage. And boy, Grandpa was so consumed in the project that it took him an entire week to complete it.

His Grandkids Loved The Homemade Disney Ride

When the project was completed, his wife Susie played a recording of “It’s a Small World” on her iPad while George walked a toy car (which served as a boat from the original Disney ride) through the ride, capturing the video on his phone. He posted the video on Facebook for his family, especially his grandkids, to enjoy.

“My grandkids were thrilled and amazed. They watched it over and over,” he said. They have also asked him to leave the ride as it is as they want to see it in person and play with it. So looks like the ride is going to be taking over his garage for quite a while.
