India has been witnessing unseasonal rainfall this year, thanks to climate change. While many parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, witnessed heavy rainfall, Gujarat witnessed hailstorms in many parts of the state, including Rajkot. According to the latest news updates, about twenty people were killed in lightning strikes across the state. The unseasonal rains will continue for the next few days, according to the weather forecast.
Gujarat: 20 People Killed In Lightning Strike
Due to unseasonal rainfall, lightning strikes have killed twenty people in various districts of Gujarat. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reports that four people got killed in the district of Dahod, three in Bharuch, two in Tapi, and one in each of Ahmedabad, Amreli, Banaskantha, Botad, Kheda, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Sabarkantha, Surat, Surendranagar, and Devbhumi Dwarka.
Eight people lost their lives to lightning strikes yesterday, coinciding with the state’s extensive unseasonal rainfall and thunderstorms. In Botad taluka, a 22-year-old biker died from a lightning strike, and in Mehsana district, a 29-year-old man died after a tree fell on an autorickshaw.
Lightning strikes that coincided with the rains claimed the lives of two farmers in the Tapi district and one each in the Sabarkantha, Ahmedabad, Mehsana, and Dahod districts. In certain areas, lightning strikes also claimed the lives of sheep and animals.

Very Heavy Rainfall
The PTI news agency reports that since 6 am on Sunday, up to 50 mm of rain have fallen in 10 hours in 220 out of 251 talukas in Gujarat. On the other hand, Ahmedabad City saw 15 mm of rain yesterday.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that a cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea and the neighbouring districts of Saurashtra and Kutch is to blame for the unseasonal rains.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Monday is predicted to see a decrease in the amount of rain. Rainfall is expected to decrease on Monday and be confined to some areas of the districts of south Gujarat and Saurashtra, according to Manorama Mohanty, head of IMD’s Ahmedabad center.
In the meantime, early on Monday morning, IMD issued a rainfall alert for several areas in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and southwest Madhya Pradesh.
In some isolated parts of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, the Met Department also predicted light to moderate rainfall. (As per Live Mint)

Amit Shah Expressed Condolences
During the next two to three hours, areas in orange and red (south Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and southwest Madhya Pradesh) are probably going to have light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms.
Nowcasts are updated frequently. IMD stated late on Sunday night in a post on “X.” Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed condolences to the victims’ families. He stated that the local government was working on relief efforts.
The hail and ice flooded the streets of Rajkot, giving the impression that they were in Manali or Shimla. The residents were thrilled to see the unusual weather in their neighbourhood. Strolling outside their homes and holding the icy hailstones in their palms, they relished the winter’s warmth.
