Happy Monsoon! Domestic Airfares Drop, Delhi-Mumbai Cheapest Ticket Priced At ₹4500

Since some time, domestic airfares have been simply high. The nation experienced its first rain in a few days, and this has brought a huge smile to every traveller’s face. This is because domestic airfares have dropped. The airfares for Delhi-Mumbai saw their cheapest price at ₹4500. The daily domestic passenger traffic has not dropped yet, but the fares sure have.

The daily domestic passenger traffic has not dropped yet and is still above ₹4 lakh. A change in the demand-supply equation will be clearly visible as domestic airfares reduce.

The 24-hour advance purchase airfare, especially from Delhi-Mumbai has also been reduced. Rewinding back to late May and early June, the cheapest price offered for a Delhi-Mumbai flight was ₹19,000. Also, this was a non-stop, one-way flight. According to reports, the fare for Delhi-Dubai was cheaper than Delhi-Mumbai at ₹14,000. The ministry of civil aviation had to intervene, and then the prices went down by a thousand rupees, and a week later they were slashed to ₹14,000.

Notably, last-minute prices have decreased on other routes as well. For instance, a non-stop trip from Mumbai to Kochi’s 24-hour advance purchase ticket, which cost about ₹20,000 last month, is now ₹4,000.

Termination Of GoFirst Flights

When GoFirst Airlines’ flights were terminated in early May, airfares on several domestic routes started to skyrocket and eventually reached record highs in the final week of May and early June.

Since then, GoFirst has been permitted to fly 1,538 trips every week. GoFirst was a popular option for travellers going to Leh and Srinagar, which caused the prices for these flights to skyrocket. The least expensive one-way ticket between Delhi and Leh right now costs ₹15,000 (non-stop). It was approximately ₹23,000 in May.

Even though domestic airfare has decreased, last-minute costs to places like Ranchi are still exorbitant. For instance, the lowest-priced Mumbai-Ranchi round-trip ticket is now available for ₹16,000 for travel on Friday and return the following week. However, the ticket drops to ₹10,300 for travel in the middle of July.
