The closed rooms under the main chamber of the Taj Mahal created a lot of controversies, especially after BJP politician Rajneesh Singh asked for a probe into them. The former princess of Jaipur also claimed that the land on which the mausoleum was built belonged to the Jaipur royal family. The plea to open the closed doors inside the monument was however dismissed by the Allahabad High Court. The Archaeological Survey of India ( ASI) had also shared the pictures of the doors with the public inside a newsletter.

The Underground Rooms Of Taj Mahal Were A Part Of Tahkhana
Now, several theories have surfaced about the mysterious chambers. According to a report by BBC, the rooms were a part of an underground chamber known as tahkhana that provided relief during scorching summers. The information was derived from the professor, author and historian Ebba Koch. The report also revealed that before the Agra floods of 1978, the rooms also used to be open to the public.
