The metro rush and over 30-minute long queues at the in-house restaurant at IKEA are testimonies to how Indians have fallen in love with the Swedish furniture retailer. And IKEA has heard your wishes. The furniture haven is all set to open small city outlets across India along with mega stores to make their products more accessible. Here’s everything to know.
IKEA To Open Smaller Stores Across India
A Business Standard report states that IKEA received the government’s approval in 2013 for an investment worth ₹10,500 crores to open stores across India. With small stores opening long with megastores, customers can purchase their furniture on online channels easily. This is because the smaller stores will be supported by online channels. While IKEA currently has mega stores in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Navi Mumbai, you can expect at least 15 smaller stores across the country.
Consumers Love To Shop Online
The furniture giant has already done pilots in three cities and has gone online in Gujarat. Consumer behaviour has changed since the Covid-19 pandemic, with customers keen to shop for their furniture online. In fact, IKEA’s online channel contributes 30 per cent to the overall sales. Now, that’s quite interesting. So folks, you wouldn’t have to wait to visit IKEA’s mega stores in the future. Just head to their small stores within the city and shop to your heart’s content.
