The first-ever alcohol museum in India has come up North’s Goa’s Candolim. Nestled in a beach village, the museum ‘All About Alcohol’ houses centuries-old alcohol bottles, glasses and manufacturing equipment curated from all over the country and the world. It spreads across a gorgeous expanse of 13,000 square feet and also has a Goan-style tavern with antique storage vessels from Portugal. The tavern also has a feni cellar with bottles of cashew and coconut feni as old as 1946. Guests visiting the museum can also take part in feni tasting and pairing sessions.

A Journey Through Antique Mud Pots, Glass Garrafãos, Glass Vats And More
The museum has five upscale rooms entirely dedicated to alcohol, especially feni. There are glass garrafãos and antique mud pots that were used for feni storage hundreds of years ago. Speaking to IANS, the founder of the museum, Nandan Kudchadkar said, “The objective behind starting the museum was to make the world aware of Goa’s rich heritage, especially the story of feni and the legacy of the alcohol trail from Brazil to Goa.”
As reported by CN Traveller, the in-house guides will take the guests across the museum, unveiling the behind stories of the age-old artefacts including a sugarcane crusher, a historic alcohol shot dispenser, glass vats and more. Guests will also come to know about the primitive manufacturing and distillation process of local tipples.

Portuguese Had Introduced Feni In Goa In The 1700s
Goa’s alcohol museum has a plethora of utensils, glass vats, bottles and other paraphernalia linked to feni. The Portuguese had imported cashew nut plants to Goa from Brazil in the 1700s. Cashew feni is the second distillate of the juice of cashew apple. The first distillate is Urrak, which is also gaining popularity in recent times.
The museum aims to lay bare the rich history of the Goan signature drink and showcase Goa as something different than usual. On that note, the first feni cellar in the world is also located in South Goa.
