The Chairman of Rashtriya Kamdhenu, Vallabhbhai Kathiria stated on October 12 that India shall produce 33 crore eco-friendly diyas made from cow dung. These lamps will be produced during Diwali next month to counter Chinese lights. The Aayog set up in 2019 for promotion, conservation and protection of indigenous cattle in India. The Aayog commenced a nation-wide campaign to inspire people to consume cow-dung based products during Diwali. In a press conference, Kathiria declared that ‘rejecting China-made diyas’ shall inturn boost PM Modi’s ‘Make in India concept and swadeshi movement.
More than 15 states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh agreed to be part of this campaign. Ayodhya shall light around 3 lakh diyas this Diwali. Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh will light 1 lakh diyas. Last year Ayodhya entered the Guinness Records for lighting over 4 lakh diyas for Diwali. The manufacturing for diyas has already started. Kathiria informed media houses that India produces around 192 crore kilo of cow dung per day. He stated that currently, the country has a huge untapped potential of cow-dung based products. The Aayog currently offers training to self-help groups and entrepreneurs to produce cow dung based products.

India Will Produce 33 Crore Cow Dung Lamps & Other Products To Support Cow Shelters
Apart from diyas, you can also purchase a variety of cow-dung based products this Diwali. And the list includes Ganesha & Lakshmi idols, incense sticks, candles, paper weights and anti-radiation chips. Cow dung, urine and milk are used to prepare these products. Purchasing these products during Diwali will help cow shelters or gaushalas which currently face financial troubles due to the COVID-19 pandemic. people working at cow shelters can become self-reliant and have job opportunities in rural India.
